I recently splurged to have a ductless AC unit throughout my house. This takes one outdoor air compressor hooked to multiple indoor air handlers. Every room in my house gets an indoor air handler and a thermostat. The benefit of this is zone control. I can set the thermostat differently for each room. I can enjoy tons of AC when I cook in the kitchen but it won’t affect my son napping in his nursery. Zone control saves lots of money. Unused rooms in the house no longer need to be perfectly cooked all season long. I also can change the thermostat settings based on the sun rising and falling. Now that I work from home I mainly cool my office, bathroom, and kitchen. Other than that the rest of the house gets to be a warmer, sticker temperature. It saves quite a bit and extends the lifespan of the unit. Plano, TX gets a long, hot summer season. Having a great cooling system makes it so much better. I spend most of my days indoors during a Plano summer. It makes sense to invest heavily in stuff you use a lot. I have an expensive mattress, top of the line desk, computer, and a great cooling system. I have never regretted any of these purchases yet. For those who live in hotter states it pays to prioritize your cooling istation. It makes everything so much nicer.
