I live in St. Petersburg, and when most people think of the Tampa Bay area, they mostly think about our beautiful beaches. And though we have some of the most pristine beaches in the area, there is so much more to do and see in the Tampa Bay area. We have tons of restaurants and bars for the partygoers, we also have lots of historical sites and museums. Additionally, we have theme parks as well as sporting event venues. But my favorite thing about Tampa Bay is the nature preserves and wildlife parks and areas, where I can escape and fully submerge into nature. I especially like visiting these areas in the Summer although the weather is usually humid and hot, but that’s the best time to catch the wildlife as well as see the gorgeous native plants. My favorite is Lettuce Lake Park because it’s an oasis that makes you believe you’re a million miles away from the Tampa Bay area. Typically, I go to this park alone because my boyfriend would complain too much about the heat and not having any air conditioned spaces to cool off. Of course, there is no air conditioner in the middle of a swamp, and that is just part of the deal. My boyfriend prefers to go to a nice restaurant or hang out somewhere that has the air conditioner blowing all the time. I think if it were up to him, he would stay inside the entire Summer and play video games as long as there is air conditioning. Don’t get me wrong, having air conditioning is important while living in Tampa Bay, but I won’t allow the lack of A/C to prevent me from exploring my gorgeous city.
We had temperatures above 100 five days in a row
It was very difficult to keep the house cool when temperatures were above 100 degrees for a week.
My family and I worried about the AC system in our home.
It was 6 years old and struggled last year to keep up with the heat. When the daily temperatures were forecasted to be above 100°, I didn’t think the AC was going to make it. On the first day when the temperature was 105°, the AC unit struggled to keep up with the heat. It started blowing warm air around 5:00 in the afternoon. Luckily, the sun goes down around 8:00 p.m. in Rocklin, California. We thought for sure that the AC would come back on after the sun went down. Unfortunately, the first day that temperatures were over 100 degrees, the AC unit stopped working and we had to contact a Rocklin repair service. The Rocklin AC repair service came to the house, but it took a couple of hours. It was late at night by the time they arrived. The service technician I advised us to turn off the AC unit when the temperatures reach 100° during the day. He had inspected and evaluated the machine and cleaned all of the evaporator coils. He warned us that the older AC unit probably would not be able to withstand the temperatures. If we did not want to call him again for a repair, we should turn off the AC unit for a couple of hours during the day when the heat is over 100°. We decided to follow the advice of the service professional and we did not have another problem with the machine breaking down during that terrible heat wave.

I thought it was a good idea. I paid the man half of the fees up front and I was supposed to pay the other half when the job was finished. I called the contractor three times after I paid him half of the money and he never returned my calls . I lost $3,000 and I didn’t want the same thing to happen again when I had a problem with the central air conditioner. It was my first time having problems with the central air conditioner and I wasn’t sure if the whole system needed to be replaced. I knew the advertisements meant they had lots of money for advertising and that led me to believe that they would not take my money and run. Thank goodness I won’t have to worry about the furnace and the AC for a while. About 3 weeks ago, my friend Amanda invited me to a weekend girls’ trip with her.
It was her birthday and she wanted to do something fun, but she didn’t want to travel too far.
Luckily, we live in a state filled with lots of amusement and theme parks, beaches, bars, restaurants, and more. So, we can have a staycation anywhere in the state. Well, she booked an Airbnb right on Cocoa Beach, and I was excited that she chose it. Cocoa is one of my favorite places to visit in Florida and the beach is always fun and filled with lots to do. The Airbnb was a beachfront property that was close to the pier, so it made it easy for us to walk over and hit the bars. We spent 2 nights in the condo, and everything was fine, but on the third night, the air conditioner decided to malfunction. Because it was late when we discovered that the A/C wasn’t working, the property owner wasn’t able to get emergency HVAC service. As you know, it can get hot during the day in Florida, but luckily because we stayed on the beach, there was a cool breeze from the ocean. If we were in another condo away from the water and had no A/C we probably couldn’t have slept because it would’ve been too hot. Anyway, that night we were able to use the ceiling fans and we slept with the sliding doors and windows open. Thankfully, that was our last night at the condo as we checked out the next morning. Amanda was able to get a credit from Airbnb due to the A/C, so now she needs to plan another staycation.
