When it comes to seeing live musical performances, it’s hard to top Seattle, Washington.

I know there are a lot of big cities with great music scenes, but I doubt any of them are quite as good as the music of Seattle.

I don’t mean the major national acts that stop through town on their world tour, I mean the home-grown artists. People move to Seattle from all across the country just to break into the music scene, and that’s pretty incredible. I love live music, although I have no talent of my own, so I used my venue at the local cannabis dispensary to have local musicians perform. There is a small smokers lounge behind the cannabis dispensary where my customers smoke out and chat. I allow local Seattle musicians, and even a few stand-up comics, to perform for the smokers lounge. I have no idea if this is going to help my store sell more cannabis, but it is something I have always wanted to try! This gives me a chance to spotlight some of the talent that makes Seattle such an amazing place to live, and if it can help my cannabis dispensary get more popular that’s a bonus. Last weekend I had a pair of folk singers play the cannabis dispensary, and one proved to be much more popular than the other. More importantly, at the end of the night the sales tally for the cannabis dispensary hit a new high for the year! I am so glad that Seattle has such a vast and extensive talent base to draw upon.

The music scene in Portland, Oregon is pretty amazing.

I don’t mean the nationally touring acts that come through town, either. Any major musician or band that has a big tour always stops in Portland for at least one show. That’s great and all, but what I’m talking about are the local acts, the homegrown Portland musicians that make this scene so vibrant and alive. When I first moved to Portland I had dreams of being a famous guitar player. After a few days here I realized that I just wasn’t nearly as talented as some of these other folks. Instead I am happy to enjoy listening to the music of Portland, and to work as the manager of a cannabis dispensary. I think it’s amusing how many Portland musicians are also my customers. I get tickets for free shows all the time, because so many people know me from the cannabis dispensary. In return, I use my shop to help promote a few of the better local Portland bands. What I love above all else about Portland is the sense of community, and people taking care of each other. Another thing I love is the killer Portland weed, which is no doubt the best I’ve ever tasted. Next to music, my passion has always been cannabis, so if I can’t be a rock star at least I can follow my other passion and run my shop. I still get to enjoy the best music and marijuana that Portland has to offer, so I guess I shouldn’t complain too much.

I grew up obsessed with gangster movies.

• I lived in the suburbs, and had zero exposure to real-life crime, so I thought movie mobsters were the coolest.

I especially loved gangster movies about Las Vegas. My two favorite movies of all time are Casino and Bugsy, which are both centered on Las Vegas in different stages of development. Because of these films, my mental image of Sin City is washed out, glamorized, and from a bygone era. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to Las Vegas from time to time, I just wish I could have gone there 20 or 30 years ago when it was really wild. The Las Vegas of today is family friendly, without all the sharp edges of the old days. There are no gangsters here, only major corporations who own the biggest Las Vegas casinos and venues. The cannabis here is pretty stellar, but even that is no longer a criminal enterprise, it is also owned by major corporations. The last time I went to Las Vegas I avoided the strip altogether, and stayed on the outskirts of town where it’s all locals. I shopped at a locally-owned cannabis dispensary and then had a few drinks at a bar that claimed to be the oldest locally-run bar in Las Vegas. What I learned is that beyond the glitz and glitter of the cinematic Las Vegas, the real city is very down-to-earth. There is a lot more to Las Vegas than gambling and cannabis, there are amazing people with a deep and rich local history. .

My girlfriend and I went to Philadelphia for the weekend.

We thought it would be fun to see some of the tourist attractions.

We decided to pay for a City Pass. The city pass in Philadelphia includes several different area attractions. You can pick up to five places for less than $100. Places around the city included in the past are the adventure aquarium, Philadelphia zoo, Museum of the American revolution, and the Academy of Natural sciences. When you buy the city pass, you get access to each one of these places. My favorite place to visit is definitely the Philadelphia zoo. It is a great place to spend the day and I love interacting with the animals. They have big cats, birds, bears, and a variety of different reptiles and insects. We spent all day at the Philadelphia Zoo on saturday. At the end of the day both of us were really tired. I didn’t bring a lot of medical marijuana products with me, because I knew that I would be able to find a medical marijuana shop in Philadelphia. There are at least a dozen different places to buy medical marijuana products. I even found a medical marijuana shop that offered free delivery and a first-time patient special. We smoked a little marijuana before going to bed so we could wake up refreshed and ready for another day in the city.

So it is cold and wet. I expected that but not how severe it was. I was so thankful my rental came with radiant flooring. I think I would have died without proper heating. The cold sits in your bones and lingers there. It makes your joints ache and your nose to run. I tried sledding, skiing and ice skating. I tried making a snowman and snowball fights. The snow just didn’t really do it for me. It was fun getting a tree and decorating my house around the snow however. I wouldn’t want to live in Glenview forever, but it was a nice visit.
