We moved here because I got a job working for a commercial HVAC installation company.
The job offer came with a six-figure salary and a company car. My wife and I were living in the Southeast when I got offered the job in Phoenix. I knew it was going to be a lot of hassle to move across the country, but the new job was $15,000 a year more than my old job and I could not turn it down. We packed up our house into two separate U-Haul trucks. We had all of our furniture, clothing, and personal items act into one truck and everything else was packed into another. It took us a week to drive across the country with both of the moving trucks. When we arrived, it was just before the summer season. The temperatures were warmer than we anticipated. Even though we were used to hot and humid weather in the south, nothing prepared us for the dry heat in Phoenix. We had to install a humidifier in our home during the first year that we were here. There was no moisture at all in the air and my skin was dry and cracking. The humidifier really helped make the house much more comfortable. The heat has been our biggest issue since we moved, but next week we are expecting some colder than usual weather. I wouldn’t be surprised if the shop gets some repair calls for furnaces and heat pumps during that time.
