After twenty years away, I finally returned to Illinois last month for a funeral.
It’s never a good time to attend a funeral, but on the other hand it was nice to see the rest of my family.
My grandmother was 98 years old when she passed. I don’t mean to sound callous or cruel, but living for 98 years seems like a really good run! I doubt I will live that long. While it’s sad to see a loved one pass away, she was a good woman who lived a good life, and she should be celebrated, not mourned. Maybe I was too keen on celebrating because I had stumbled over Grandma’s stash of homegrown Illinois cannabis while going through her possessions. Everyone else was so maudlin and sad, but I had a pocketful of tasty homegrown Illinois cannabis, plus I knew that Grandma was in a better place now. Once you get to be that old and infirm, it is time for the next state of existence. All in all I had a nice time visiting my old haunts in Illinois, but I don’t think I will be going back anytime soon. I can definitely see myself moving back to Illinois once I get a little older, and am ready to settle down. Illinois has some touching and beautiful landscapes, and if I’m being honest the food is excellent. I am still in the prime of my life and love to party, so if I do move to Illinois it would have to be Chicago, because no other city is quite as exciting.
