My mom always loved being a tour guide. We had moved from one country to another all our lives. She always loved getting to know a place then taking other people around. When dad got a job in Evansville, we were all excited to make a move. It was an excellent promotion for him and a chance for my mom to discover a new place. She made friends with a lady who was one of the top tour guides in the city. There were many museums and sights to see before mom was ready to become a tour guide in this new place. But, she pushed ahead and learned every corner of the city before summer. Once the season was over, mom took it as a chance to join a local college and learn some new skills. Winter was brutal in Evansville, but most places had excellent air conditioning to keep all occupants warm. Mom called me one morning to let me know she was grabbing some coffee at a local cafe before getting home. She was walking from school, and it was snowing so much. She had to get into the coffee shop to escape the cold and get some heat in her body. While there, she came across a book that was on the display shelf about Evansville. Mom told me she was lucky to get it because she would use it in the summer for her tours. In the book, there was much information about the region and the people who were its first inhabitants. It described the growth of the political system and method of governance from long ago. Mom wondered if she could write a similar book about every place she had ever been to in the past.
