Before moving to Albuquerque, I lived along the Gulf of Mexico in an area that was a mere 20 feet above sea level. Surrounding neighborhoods were susceptible to flooding while the mere idea of an oncoming hurricane was enough to put the fear of God in the minds of all the locals in town. But Albuquerque is a city that is over 5,000 feet above sea level in many places just west of the Sandia Mountains that comprise the city and its suburbs. I was happy to be out of the region of hurricanes, but now I had to contend with hotter temperatures and dust storms that would cause me to pause in my tracks and ride them out whenever one would grip the city. If you struggle with sinus and respiratory allergies like I do, a dust storm can be a serious threat to your physical health. However, sometimes I get beautiful weather in Albuquerque and can take the Sandia Peak tramway up the side of the mountain range. My favorite cannabis dispensary in Albuquerque is located in Los Volcanes on the opposite side of the city from the Sandia Mountains. I have a cruise across Interstate 40 until I reach the exit for Interstate 25 to take me north. Interstate 25 takes me to the exit for Tramway Road. Taking this east will eventually bring me to the Tramway Trailhead and then the Sandia Peak Tramway. With a cannabis pen in my pocket, there’s no better way to experience the beauty of Albuquerque than from high up in the cable car, 5,000 feet above the city.
